Cao Guojiu was the brother of the Song empress Cao, ashamed of his kinsman’s crimes. He gave away his wealth, fled the court in patched robes and was converted by Han Zhongli and Lü Dongbin. Bearing the jade tablet of his rank, he shows that even a prince may wash away the world in penance.
