The Lightning Mother flashes her mirror beside the Thunder Duke, illuminating the target of his strike. In the Fengshen Yanyi she appears as the Golden Light Holy Mother, canonized into the Thunder Department after death. Together the pair form heaven’s most visible court of punishment — first the flash that reveals, then the bolt that falls.
