Han Zhongli, said to have lived across the Han and Tang dynasties, is the elder of the Eight Immortals who tests and instructs the others. Bare-chested with a fan, he taught Lü Dongbin through ten trials before granting him the arts of transmutation. His fan revives the dead and his teaching founds the band.
