Duke of Thunder

Winged thunder god who strikes the wicked with hammer and chisel, partner of the lightning mother.

The Duke of Thunder is the heavenly executor who punishes the wicked with hammer and chisel. In Daoist theology he heads the Thunder Department under the Puhua Tianzun, commanding wind, rain and lightning. Folk belief pictures him bird-faced and winged, flying with the Lightning Mother at his side, and the cry “struck by thunder” remains the commonest curse against hidden evil.
