Lü Dongbin
Ancestor Lü
Sword-carrying Tang immortal of the Eight Immortals, patriarch of Quanzhen Daoism.
Lü Dongbin, personal name Lü Yan, was a Tang-dynasty scholar-turned-immortal who, according to legend, passed the ten trials set by Han Zhongli and received the secret arts of the Dao. Sword on his back, he roamed the empire righting wrongs, turning stone to gold and drinking at Yueyang Tower. Daoism honors him as Ancestor Lü of Pure Yang, and the Quanzhen school counts him among its five northern patriarchs.
