Son of Yu the Great who began hereditary rule and, in myth, brought the Nine Songs from heaven.

Qi, son of Yu the Great, was the first ruler of the hereditary Xia dynasty. When the people turned to him instead of the worthy Boyi, the age of abdication ended and rule by lineage began. Myth adds that Qi ascended three times to heaven and brought back the Nine Songs — the rites of the throne descending from the sky.
