Shebishi

Dog-Eared Deity

Beast-bodied god with a human face and great dog ears, earrings of two green serpents.

Shebishi is recorded in the Outer Eastern Seas of the Shanhaijing as a beast-bodied deity with a human face, great dog-like ears and two green serpents hanging from them. The word “corpse” in such entries marks a god who never truly dies but remains as a numinous body in the wild — a keeper of the eastern edge of the world, still and watchful.
