The Yan Emperor who taught farming and tasted hundreds of herbs to identify their medicinal properties.

Shennong, the Divine Farmer, taught the people to plough the fields and to taste every herb in search of medicine. According to legend he tested hundreds of plants in a single day, discovering which healed and which poisoned, and for this he is honored as the father of agriculture and pharmacy. In later tradition he merges with the Flame Emperor Yandi.
