The Old Man Under the Moon

God of marriage who ties lovers with an invisible red thread.

The Old Man Under the Moon comes from a Tang tale in which Wei Gu meets an elder reading a book of marriages by moonlight; the elder carries a sack of red threads that tie the feet of every destined couple. From that story comes the phrase “the old man under the moon pulls the thread,” still used for matchmakers and for love itself — the belief that some pairs were bound before they met.
