God of Fire

God of fire and the southern summer in Chinese mythology, honored as the ancestor of fire officials.

Zhurong is the god of fire in Chinese mythology, the Fire Officer (Huozheng) of the south and summer. Described in different traditions as a descendant of Zhuanxu or of the Flame Emperor, he governs fire, light and the season of growth. His famous conflict with the water god Gonggong belongs to the great myths of cosmic struggle, and his name later became a poetic term for fire itself.
