Lushu is the beast of Yaoyang Mountain shaped like a horse with a white head, tiger stripes and a red tail, singing like a human song. The Shanhaijing says that wearing its hide brings many descendants — a rare blessing of fertility carved into the text’s catalogue of wonders.
