Qiongqi
The Vicious Beast
Man-eating beast in the Shanhaijing said to devour the loyal and aid the wicked.
Qiongqi is one of the fiercest beasts of early Chinese myth. In the Shanhaijing it is ox-like with bristling hair and a cry like a dog’s howl, feeding on people; another tradition makes it a winged tiger that eats the upright and helps the wicked. Along with Hundun, Taowu and Taotie it was counted among the Four Perils banished by the sage rulers.
