The Wenyao fish of Guan River has the body of a carp, the wings of a bird, a white head and a red beak, and flies by night between the Eastern and Western Seas. When it appears, the world enjoys a great harvest. A fish that leaves the water to fly is one of the Shanhaijing’s most hopeful omens.
