Yayu was once a divine being slain by the minister Wei at the orders of Erfu; the gods revived him, but he came back as a dragon-headed monster that feeds on people in the Weak Water. Resurrected but ruined, he is the Shanhaijing’s warning that not every return from death is a blessing.
