Yufu

The Fish-Woman

Mythic being into which the dying Zhuanxu revived and serpents turned to fish at the north wind.

Yufu, the Fish-Woman, is born from the revival of the dying god Zhuanxu. When the north wind blows and the great waters rise, serpents turn into fish, and the revived god takes the form of a withered fish-woman. The passage preserves an ancient myth of death, transformation and the turning of the year.
