The Dragon Princess of Dongting

Scholar Liu Yi carries a dragon princess’s letter home; she is freed and they marry at last.

The failed scholar Liu Yi meets a shepherdess by the Jing River who is in truth the daughter of the Dragon King of Dongting, married against her will and mistreated by her husband’s family. Liu Yi carries her letter to the lake, where her uncle, the fierce Qian Tang Lord, destroys the offending dragon and brings her home. Grateful and in love, the princess takes mortal form and marries Liu Yi — a union that crosses every boundary between human and dragon.
