The Drought Goddess in War

Against Chi You’s storm, the Yellow Emperor summoned Nüba to dry the battle — leaving her a drought spirit.

When Chi You summoned the Earl of Wind and the Master of Rain to drown the Yellow Emperor’s army in storm, heaven sent down the goddess Nüba. At her coming the rain stopped and the winds died, and the Yellow Emperor slew Chi You on the field. But Nüba’s power could not be recalled: unable to return to heaven, she dwells in the north where no rain falls, and her name becomes the drought that follows every victory.
