Lion, elephant and roc kings devour a kingdom until Buddha himself subdues the roc.

The lion, the elephant and the roc — three demon kings whose appetites have devoured an entire kingdom — hold the Lion Camel Ridge against the pilgrims. Wukong is caught in the roc’s grip, and Bajie and Wujing fall in turn; no army of heaven can prevail. At last the Buddha himself descends, for the roc is his own aunt’s son: he must come in person to carry his rebellious kinsman home.
