The Lion in the Throne

A lion demon usurps the throne; Wukong retrieves the drowned king and restores him with elixir.

The king of Wuji is pushed into a well in his own garden by the green lion of Manjushri, who takes the throne in his form. The wronged ghost visits Tang Sanzang in a dream; Wukong dives into the well, carries the corpse to the surface and begs an elixir from Lord Lao to revive the king. Before the court, the true and false rulers confront each other, and Manjushri descends to reclaim his lion — the usurper exposed by the monkey’s medicine.
