Battle of Banquan

The Flame and Yellow Emperors fought at Banquan; their union formed the basis of the Huaxia people.

The Flame Emperor Yandi and the Yellow Emperor Huangdi are remembered as the twin founders of the Chinese people, but legend says they first met as rivals. Contending for leadership of the tribal alliance, they fought at the plain of Banquan; after three battles the Yellow Emperor prevailed, and the two great clans were joined. Together they then overcame Chi You of the Nine Li tribes. From that union the phrase “descendants of Yan and Huang” was born — and the Battle of Banquan became the hinge on which the story of a single Huaxia people turns.
